Dental Implants

What is a dental implant procedure?

Straumann-premium-dental-implantA dental implant procedure is part of a dental operation to replace a missing tooth. Unlike dentures, which are false teeth that you can easily remove, dental implants are placed in the jawbone in a series of minor operations.

A dental implant is a piece of titanium or other material that looks like a screw. It is put into the jaw where the missing tooth’s roots were located. Over time, bone grows around the implant, which helps to hold it in place.

An artificial tooth, or crown, is then attached to the metal to fill in the gap left by the missing tooth. The crown is specially made to look like the other teeth in size, shape and colour.

Dental implants can also be used to hold a dental bridge or dentures in place.

If you have one or more missing teeth, a dental implant might be a suitable option if you:

  • have a fully grown, healthy jawbone
  • don’t have gum disease
  • don’t have conditions that affect bone healing

Save on Medical Tourism dentist will discuss with you whether a dental implant procedure is suitable for you. It is important to understand that the minimum time for implant reconstruction will  vary for every case.  The implant treatment stages will be  discussed with you based on your individual circumstances.

Our clinics use Straumann and Zimmer Biomet  Implant technology and offer a lifetime warranty. We use this technology  because both companies have proven track record and clinical studies to support their efficacy.  That’s why it is important to compare the type of dental implant when comparing the overall dental implant prices.

We consider dental implants to be an investment for your future health and wellbeing.

What is all on 4?

The term all on 4  refers to the replacement of all teeth with four dental implants to support them.

There are many advantages to immediate implant reconstruction including:

  • Minimizing treatment time.
  • Immediate “fix” with teeth that do not have to be removed which is appealing to some clients and
  • Improved bite force from day 1.

Sometimes, patients  will need 6 dental implants however this is still going to be cheaper and less invasive rather than replacing each tooth with a dental implant.

Our clinics use an individual approach and will explain and guide you through this process.

Straumann CaresIt can be very difficult and confusing to compare all on 4 procedure.  This is because there are different techniques that can be used for all on 4 procedure.

In Australia prices start from $17,000 per arch and go up to $30,000 and higher. The final price will depend on the type of the dental bridge and material used and type and quality of your dental implants. The materials used for bridges are Acrylic, Titanium, Zirconia and Porcelain. There are two main criteria used to differentiate between different bridges and they  are durability and aesthetics.

Save on Medical Tourism partner clinics will provide you with a detailed treatment plan and guide you through the whole process.  We will provide you with an estimate of fees and will explain the financial costs associated with different materials as well as the pros and cons of using them.

What if I don’t have sufficient amount of bone?

It was once thought that dental implants could not be fitted if a patient had insufficient jawbone. Thanks to advances in medical technology, however, bone can now be rebuilt. Grafting can be completed with your own bone(autogenic), or a fake bone (allogenic). Your own bone is then stimulated and eventually grows through the bone graft to replace it. This procedure is usually done at the time your implant is placed, but in severe cases, it may be required 6 months prior to treatment known as bone augmentation)which is a highly specialized field requiring advanced training and clinical experience. At Save on Medical Tourism partner clinics grafting procedures will be performed either by one of our registered oral and maxillo facial surgeons or by a specialist periodontist. It is important to understand that if this procedure is required it will add to the overall costs of the procedure as well as the length of time required to finalize the treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

After any of the minor operations, you might have bruising, pain and swelling of the gums and face. You may also have some bleeding from the gums.

You might need to eat soft foods after each surgery to let the dental implant site heal.

No special care is required for a dental implant. You will probably be advised to keep your natural and artificial teeth clean by brushing and flossing and have regular dental check-ups.

Dental implants are usually successful. Problems are rare but include:

  • infection
  • injury or damage to surrounding teeth or blood vessels
  • nerve damage
  • sinus problems

PRF is a natural product obtained from the patient’s venous blood and represents an advanced method of obtaining healing membranes that are used in dental interventions such as:

  • Sinus lift
  • Bone addition procedures
  • Insertion of the dental implant

Benefits:

  • Rapid regeneration and healing, without any side effects – PRF membranes accelerate the healing process by stimulating angiogenesis (formation of new vessels) and resorption of inflammatory edema
  • Because it is obtained from the patient’s blood, there is no risk of allergic reactions, so the rejection rate is zero and the risk of transmitting infectious diseases is eliminated.
  • 100% natural method (no addition of anticoagulants, calcium chloride or thrombin).

The alternatives to dental implants are wearing dentures or having a dental bridge. The advantages of dental implants is they look and feel like your own teeth and they don’t sacrifice the quality of other teeth.

Sinus lift procedure  is a treatment approach our partner clinics may recommend when you desire dental implants but don’t have enough jaw bone to secure the implant.

A sinus lift refers to the augmentation or lifting up of the maxillary sinus to make more room for new bone. The maxillary sinuses are air-filled cavities that are located just above the back portion of the maxilla or upper jaw. By lifting the sinus and grafting bone in between, there’s more bone for a doctor to place a dental implant. If you don’t have enough upper jaw bone, the implant can’t properly anchor, and your new dental implant can’t perform some more demanding tasks, such as chewing.

Without enough bone, the dental implant won’t properly secure and can fail. A sinus augmentation may increase significantly the treatment cost, but it is the only solution for patients without enough bone in the sinus area to become eligible for dental implants. Our partner clinics will assess your bone condition and guide you through the whole process.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risk. Before proceeding with a surgical or invasive procedure, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriate qualified practitioner.
